Bernina 2011

In late July, we traveled from Switzerland to Italy to climb the highest peak of Bernina, and also the highest peak in the Eastern Alps Piz Bernina (4049 m).We started from village on lake of Campo Moro, choosing the normal way - Spallagrat ridge - to reach the top. From the Rifugio Marinelli Bombardieri, the road led us through the glacier, then rock and ice slope to the pass to Rifugio Marco e Rosa, then via exposed ridge to Italian summit. Getting out of there involved a number of adventures. In the upper shelter we spent an unplanned night without food, water, sleeping bags and no money. It is definitely something to remember! On the way back we leisured at the Italian Lake Como, we also visited the largest climbing wall in Zurich-very impressive!
